Games whose outcome is determined by skill and not chance should not be subjected to licensing requirements, the Malta Gaming Authority, MGA, said in a statement yesterday.

Following a public consultation process and an assessment of feedback received, the MGA said the risks associated with such games did not warrant “stringent ex-ante requirements”.

Skill games operators and their gaming activities should fall under the governance and regulatory competence of the MGA, the authority said. These would be subject to standards and monitoring to ensure a safe and fair environment for players.
