I cannot but second John Schembri's remarks in his letter (December 3) in which he deplores the St Julians local council decision to remove skips from the locality.

Remove skips? One would have hoped, indeed expected, that the council would introduce and enforce waste separation and recycling rather than, as Mr Schembri hinted, regress to less than acceptable practices.

Another point Mr Schembri underlined was the rather uncouth and not so subtle "threat" that anyone finding fault with this archaic decree will be lumped with a skip outside one's property. There are various areas where skips may be placed without being a nuisance to anyone. So where does one get off threatening Joe Public with such base intimidations?

Public relations indeed! Long gone are the days when people holding any such positions could steamroller their way through policies without having to answer for their own actions or arrogance as the case may be.

Skips are no luxury. Instead of removing them, the council should be looking to improve the waste collecting service!
