Sliema Band to hold vocal and musical concert
Singers Jessica Muscat, Victorio Gauci and Fabrizio Faniello will perform during the May 8 event
To celebrate the anniversary of its foundation in 1923, the Soċjetà Filarmonika Sliema is holding a vocal and musical concert at its band club premises on Friday, May 8, at 7.30pm.
The concert will be performed by the Banda Ċittadina Sliema, led by music director Lesley Tabone, with the participation of singers Jessica Muscat, Victorio Gauci and Fabrizio Faniello.
The trio will interpret popular numbers such as A Thousand Years, arranged by Jonathan Borg; Sena Ilu Bħal Daż-Żmien, arranged by Joe Brown; Xemx, also arranged by Brown; and Fuq iz-Zuntier ma’ Enzo by the late Enzo Gusman, arranged by Anthony Chircop. Faniello will perform his hits I Do and Sal-Aħħar Nifs, as arranged by Brown.
The band will open the concert with the well-known piece At the Movies by John Williams, and will also play Pearl Harbor and Golden, among others.
Towards the end of the concert, the three singers will perform their Malta Eurovision Song Contest entry Festa (No Time for Siesta), musically arranged by Brown. The Sliema Band will conclude the evening with the popular Inno Sliema by Mro Cardenio Botti.
During the event, the Banda Ċittadina Sliema will present the ‘Bandsman of the Year’ award, with the recipient receiving the Mro Cardenio Botti Trophy, crafted in marble by the late mason Ronald Pisani.
Students studying at the Mro Cardenio Botti School of Music within the society will also receive various certificates related to their performance.
The honour ‘Ġieħ is-Soċjetà’ will also be presented by the president and the society’s committee.
The concert will be compèred by Karl Mifsud and admission is free. The band club’s premises are located at 34, St Trophimus Street, Sliema, opposite the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the Sliema local council.
