UPDATED - FA Trophy Quarter Finals
Sliema Wanderers 1 Hibernians 0
Tarxien Rainbows 1 Birkirkara 2
Hamrun Spartans 2, Marsaxlokk 3
Valletta 2 Floriana 2 - Valletta through on penalties
League leaders Hibs were eliminated from the FA Trophy this evening and Valletta just managed to scrape through on penalities.
Sliema Wanderers knocked out Hibernians, beating them 1-0 thanks to an 11th minute Ivan Woods goal. Terence Scerri missed a penalty for Hibs.
Birkirkara also qualified to the semi-finals by beating Tarxien 2-1 thanks to first half goals by Angus Buhagiar and Jean Paul Mifsud Triganza. Bueno got a goal back for the Rainbows near the end of the match.
Birkirkara had Mifsud Triganza sent off in the 83rd minute.
In the third match of the day Marsaxlokk got the better of Hamrun by the odd goal in five. Marsaxlokk were leading 3-0 thanks to goals by Pereira and Kokavessis (2) when Hamrun started a fightback with an 80th minute penalty by Camvalius. Gaetan Spiteri scored the second in the 89th minute, but it was too late by now, and it is Marsaxlokk who move into the semis.
The real nail biter was the derby between eternal rivals Floriana and Valletta. The Greens opened the score through a penalty taken by Doffo in the second minute. They managed to hold out for the whole 90 minutes, but Paolo Massaro then equalised for the Citizens deep in injury time. He also put Valletta in the lead two minutes into extra time, but Ryan Darmanin equalised before Valletta had time to celebrate. That was how the game ended before the penalty shootout, which went Valletta's way 4-1 with goals by Scicluna, Massaro, Zammit and Pace.
Darmanin scored for Floriana but Agius and Briffa missed.
