The 70-year-old man injured in a fire at his house in Freres Street, Sliema, on Tuesday died yesterday, police said.

The police had been alerted about the fire by an anonymous telephone caller. Looking through the letter-box, the police had noticed a man lying on the floor crying out in pain.

The police had broken the door down and rushed the man to hospital.
