It is of paramount importance that Sliema councillors get up from behind their desks and check for themselves the unacceptable condition of the road surfaces, which now look like the lunar surface.
What makes it frustrating is the fact that there is not even any attempt whatsoever to maintain these roads. I imagine that, in the minds of the local council, the only way to repair a road is to have it completely resurfaced. We are well aware what it takes to have a road resurfaced in Malta and, as considerable time passes, the need for maintenance is warranted.
In my mind, if the council got itself a crew of some few people and the right equipment, the roads can easily be maintained. I realise that it amounts to patching up the roads, however, if this patching up does give the motorist a better drive and less chances of ruining the suspension of his/her vehicle, then it is a way forward, until the full resurfacing would be due.
I am sure that at least one person, who is presently employed at the council, did drive along Tower Road and, here, I sincerely hope that s/he did realise the very bad condition of this road. Did it not occur to him/her that this road requires maintenance?
The council appears to be more heavily involved in the dishing out of permits and everybody has forgotten the roads altogether. I sincerely hope somebody in the Sliema council would answer my letter, informing us all what step/s it will be taking to improve the condition of the roads. It should not be left unanswered.
