Sliema naval clinic
I fully agree with Astrid Vella (March 17) that the proposed dismantling of the Piazzetta naval clinic would rob Sliema of one of its few surviving buildings of architectural/historic value. The naval clinic is designated as grade 2 scheduled property.
I fully agree with Astrid Vella (March 17) that the proposed dismantling of the Piazzetta naval clinic would rob Sliema of one of its few surviving buildings of architectural/historic value.
The naval clinic is designated as grade 2 scheduled property. This designation precludes the developer from knocking down the façade of the building. Despite the architectural value of this building, it has already been partly demolished. The demolition of this building runs counter to structure plan policy UCO 7 and UCO 9.
As a Sliema local councillor elected on behalf of Alternattiva Demokratika, I will do my utmost so that the council may take a decision to oppose the dismantling of this historic structure and to oppose construction at Il-Pjazzetta, which is one of the few remaining open spaces in Sliema. The naval clinic should be restored to its original beauty.
I remind the authorities that the north harbour plan policy document makes it clear that this open space should be safeguarded. Sliema residents should therefore not be denied the right to enjoy open spaces.
