Sliema Wanderers and Malta wing back Carlo Mamo was suspended for six months by the Malta FA executive committee after failing a dope test. The decision was taken on Tuesday.
Mamo was one of the players selected for the test after the January 12 premier league clash between Sliema and Birkirkara which finished in a 1-1 draw. Mamo`s `A` test was found positive but his club Sliema had requested that the `B` test would also be examined.
The sample was flown to Germany where the result was reconfirmed. The case was discussed earlier this week by the Malta FA executive committee, who on recommendation by the medical commission, decided to suspend Mamo for six months. The maximum penalty in such cases is two years.
Mamo will now have to sit out from competitive football for the rest of the season and only return on November 1.
The Malta FA decision will be made official today in a council meeting at the Centenary Hall.
