\nThe Malta national team yesterday lost their second European Championship Division 'B' qualifier after they were beaten 107-53 by Slovakia at the University Sports Hall.
The eastern Europeans were too strong for the hosts. Their superiority under the boards and their swift passing constituted the vast difference.
Steve Schembri was Malta's leading scorer with 12 points.
Slovakia are vying for the top place in the group along with Ireland as Malta will be looking at the next group match on Saturday, again at home vs Switzerland, as their only chance of success in this tournament.
In Saturday's opening match, Ireland coasted home to a 90-51 win over the Maltese who despite the upset are constantly showing signs of technical improvement in their build-up for next year's GSSE in Andorra.
Malta: M. Naudi (8), M. Mercieca (1), C. Sammut, E. Bezzina (2), S. Schembri (12) , T. Riolo (3), O. Said (6), A. Bonnici (10), A. Huizer (3), S. Cassar (8).
