The area in front of the Valletta law courts is being transformed into a slum this weekend with eight members of the voluntary work team Maranathà Catholic Charismatic Community simulating the urban poverty experienced by children in different parts of the world.

The event, “Slum Survivor – Street Children”, is being held between this evening at 4pm and Sunday at noon.

The participants will live off a limited diet of bread and rice and endure challenges that simulate aspects of the children’s everyday life, including a scavenger hunt for biscuits hidden around Valletta.

The money collected from the event will be donated to St. Joseph’s Home in Sta Venera to provide boys at the institute with a once in a life time holiday to Germany. For the past year, the participants of Slum Survivor have been carrying out voluntary work regularly at the Home..

Donations can be made to the St Joseph Home accounts: HSBC 027 0022730 001, BOV 15800400086 and APS 20000 358238.
