Two rooms at the Palm Court Hotel in Qawra were slightly damaged yesterday in a small fire which also left a worker suffering from smoke inhalation. Sources said the fire started when workmen were carrying out maintenance works in the hotel which is closed for the winter because of rising costs and a decline in tourism. The hotel was in the news last Monday after a health inspector was charged with disclosing official secrets when he allegedly told the hotel owner that there would be a surprise inspection to check water quality.
