Small parties make their final TV pitch to voters

ADPD, Momentum, Aħwa Maltin, and Imperium Europa each had five minutes to deliver their message

The small political parties delivered their final messages on state TV on Tuesday evening, telling citizens why they deserved their vote.

ADPD’s Sandra Gauci,  Paul  Salomone of Aħwa Maltin, Imperiume Europa’s Eman Cross, and Momentum chairperson Arnold Cassola each had five minutes for their final pitch in a Broadcasting Authority programme.

Gauci said that her Green Party wants to transform Malta’s energy grid to rely on renewable energy, so that by 2030 half of Malta’s energy supply comes from green sources.

In Planning all the areas slated for development following the 2006 rationalisation plan should again be classified Outside the Development Zone, she said.

ADPD also wants a Bus Rapid Transit system that is much cheaper and can be delivered much quicker than what the PL or PN are proposing, she said.

Arnold Cassola of Momentum said the PL and PN would bankrupt Malta if they kept all their promises.

Unlike them, Momentum is not interested “in making fun of people” he said.

Cassola said his party’s goal is to ensure the basic right of people to have a decent quality of life, with clean water and air and access to green spaces.

He said Momentum was not ready to accept the political agenda set by developers.

Paul Salomone of Aħwa Maltin said property in Malta was becoming too expensive, people were losing their Maltese Identity and Maltese people were becoming minorities in certain areas.

He said 40,000 Maltese have emigrated from the country. He did not mention the source of his information.

Eman Cross of Imperium Europa said the election would determine Malta’s “destiny”.

He said the choice was whether to continue with Malta’s two-party system that had led to a “silent invasion” of Third Country Nationals. He said this was Malta’s main problem.

Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition leader Alex Borg will take part in a TV debate on Wednesday evening.
