The first Smiling with Jerome initiative is taking place today during an open day at the St Monica School in Gżira in aid of poor families in Albania.
The family fun day will feature face painting, a police dog show, sports cars, sumo wrestling, singing and a magic show.
Named after the late Jerome Frendo, the initiative will collect money to buy carpets, new woollen jackets, thermal underwear, beanies, scarves, socks and mittens for the needy in Albania as winter approaches.
The Smiling with Jerome initiative was founded immediately after the 20-year-old passed away, so as to continue his legacy by promoting hope and courage.
Jerome was born in 1997 and by the age of 16 – just three months into his Junior College experience – he was diagnosed with bone cancer.
After a four-year battle with the disease, he passed away last month, when he was just about to start his second year at university.
During his short-lived life, he inspired several through his positive outlook despite the difficulties he was facing.
