Smoking in cinemas

I refer to Lucienne Pace's letter (September 19) regarding smoking in Fgura cinemas.

Eden Century Cinemas have, from the very beginning, enforced the no smoking ban in all their theatres. This was done for the comfort of patrons, independent of the fact that it was illegal to smoke. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside of the cinema.

Regrettably, strict enforcement does not necessarily inhibit a handful of selfish patrons from trying to circumvent the house rules and the law.

We can assure our patrons as well as Ms Pace that every effort is made to provide a tobacco-free environment and as such we have again instructed our duty managers, ushers and security staff to be extra vigilant and ensure that smoking does not take place at any time in any of our cinemas.

It is also to be noted that the Eden Leisure Group are a no smoking organisation and have on a number of occasions worked together to promote the goals of the Health Promotion Department.
