Stephen Hendry, widely acknowledged as the greatest player ever to pick up a snooker cue, came from 5-3 down to defeat arch-rival Ronnie O'Sullivan 9-6 in the final of the British Open at the Brighton Centre yesterday. Victory gave him a record fourth British Open crown, the 35th ranking title of his illustrious career, a cheque for £52,000 and halted a run of six successive defeats by O'Sullivan in major finals stretching back to 1997.
