Obituary

TONNA. On October 22, at his residence in Birkirkara, JOSEPH of Floriana, aged 81, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Giovanna, his sons and daughters, Paul, Joe and his wife Carmen, Vanni and his wife Rita, Carmen and her husband Brian, Freddie and Netta, Victor and his wife Noela, Dorothy and her husband Mario, Anna and her husband Paul, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Anthony church, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

Requiem Masses

On the 18th anniversary of the demise of RITA BARTOLO, today's 5.15 and 6.30 p.m. Masses at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish church, Ta' l-Ibrag, will be offered for the repose of her soul.

St Augustine Lecture

St Augustine of Hippo's Teaching Christianity will be the theme of this year's eighth annual Saint Augustine Lecture organised by the Faculty of Theology at the Erin Serracino Inglott Hall, University of Malta on November 11 at 7 p.m.

The guest lecturer will be Pier Franco Beatrice of the University of Padua, Italy.

The lecture is being held in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Foundation for Theological Studies and the Augustinian Institute of Pietá.

Prof. Beatrice will speak on Shifting Paradigms of Interpretation of De Doctrina Christiana.

On November 12, Prof. Beatrice will address the public during a lecture on the theme What do we possess that we have not received? Why should Christians study profane history according to St Augustine's of Hippo's De Doctrina Christiana?

The lecture is open to all the members of the Faculty of Theology, the university student body and staff and will be held in Gate Way Hall C at 11 a.m.

On November 13, Prof. Beatrice will deliver a public lecture at the main hall of the Augustinian Institute, in Pietá on The treasures pf the Egyptians in De Doctrina Christiana. The lecture starts at 10 a.m.

Musico-Literary Soirée

The Zebbug local council will be holding a musico-literary soirée on the occasion of Zebbug Day at St Philip Square on October 30 from 7 p.m.

Journalism course in Gozo

An introductory course in journalism is being organised by the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism in Gozo between November 8 - 13.

Various themes will be addressed during the course, including reportage, writing, editing, news analysis, interview techniques and newsroom leadership.

The course is targeted at those already doing some journalistic work, people who are aiming for a journalistic career and others who work with an information institution, including local councils, community radios and for public relations officers.

The course is being based around six two-hour sessions which will be held from Monday to Friday between 6 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon. The lectures will be given by professional journalists and university lecturers.

Attendance is against a fee of Lm10 and a certificate will be given to all those attending.

FOE workshop

Friends of the Earth Malta will be holding a workshop entitled New European Citizens! at the Lapsi Hotel, St Julians tomorrow at 9 a.m.

The workshop is co-funded by the European Union (Directorate General for Education and Culture) with FOE.

Non-governmental organisations are invited to a session dedicated to networking from 2 - 4 p.m.

The Count Roger Band Club committee will be holding a musical evening at the band premises, Main Street, Rabat on Friday at 7 p.m. with the participation of an English band accompanying the Cwmbach choir. Entrance is free and all are welcome.
