Obituary

MONREAL. On October 5, at St Luke's Hospital, MARY née Busuttil, aged 68, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Vincent, her daughters Suzanne and her husband Joseph Ricca, Odile and her husband Robert Pace, her beloved grandchildren Keith, Michael and Claire, her brothers Saviour and his wife Josephine, Alfred and his wife Rose, Michael and his wife Rita, her in-laws, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

First Aid Courses

St John Ambulance will be holding a series of first aid courses during October and November.

A course in English will start on October 12 at 6.30 p.m. while two courses in Maltese will start on October 13, one at 9.30 a.m. and another at 6.30 p.m.

The courses will consists of nine lectures once a week, each lasting about two hours.

Another course will start on November 8 and will run every Monday and Thursday from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

The fee for an entire course is Lm10 which includes a workbook, training material and certification.

Caritas appeal

Caritas Malta is launching an appeal for money to help the people of Haiti overcome the aftermath created by the recent hurricane that devastated the country.

Donations may be made to parish priests in Malta and Gozo or by deposits in the following bank accounts: APS - 2000021780/2; Bank of Valletta - 400 1377271/2; HSBC - 089 -021513-051 or by sending a cheque to Caritas-Haiti Fund, 5, Lion Street, Floriana VLT 16, or by presenting the donation personally to Caritas.

The money collected will be sent to Caritas Internationalis, which is already helping Haitians in need.

Instrumental programme

The Count Roger Band Club, in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, will be holding an instrumental programme to mark the 30th anniversary of Joseph Vella as bandmaster, in Mdina's Vilhena Palace courtyard on Sunday at 6.30 p.m.

The concert is part of the Malta Historic Cities Festival organised by the Malta Tourism Authority, with the Count Roger Band being the only Maltese band participating. All are welcome to attend.

Christmas arts expo

St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity is inviting Maltese artists to participate in the Christmas Arts Expo from November 13 to December 13.

The idea is to offer to the general public a central place where to find and buy works of art to offer them as gifts at Christmas.

Music fellowship

Richard Bugeja has just been awarded the London College of Music Fellowship in musical composition after the submission of his original composition Malta Matul iz-Zminijiet.

This suite in eight movements is about early to recent Maltese history, written for the band, soprano, tenor and choir in quartet.

Mro Bugeja resides in Dingli, where he is musical director of the Santa Marija Band.

Jumble sale

The Fatima parish church fund raising committee of Guardamangia will be holding a jumble sale in aid of the church starting on Friday until October 27 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Indoor plants

The Indoor Plant Circle will be holding its monthly meeting at the Senior Citizens' Centre, St Publius Street, Floriana on October 12 at 6 p.m. Peter Caruana will speak about the care of indoor plants in winter.
