Obituary

ABELA. On August 6, PAUL, widower of Violet née Naudi, (ex-Lyceum mathematics master, sports master and group scoutmaster), a much beloved and cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully away, aged 95, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children, Major Ronald Abela and his wife Miriam, Edward and his wife Christine, John and his wife Josette, Lt Colonel Herbert Abela and his wife Bernadette, and Squadron Leader Peter Abela and his wife Irene. He also leaves to mourn his loss his sister Inez Caruana, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other members of the family, his many friends and his ex-students.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. for the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery chapel (entrance from back gate), where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 10 a.m., followed by interment. No flowers by request but donations to the Eden Foundation, Bulebel, would be appreciated. The family are grateful for the dedicated care received from the staff at Casa Antonia, Balzan. Lord Jesus, grant him eternal rest.

PARASCANDALO - CARMELO. Precious memories of a most beloved father and grandfather on the seventh anniversary of his death. Sadly missed by Mary Rose, Laurence, Ninette, Josette and Anna, in-laws and grandchildren. Tomorrow's 6 o'clock Mass at St Lawrence parish church, Vittoriosa, will be offered for the repose of his soul.

Prayer Meeting

The Mary Queen of Peace monthly prayer meeting is due on August 12 at 6 p.m. at St Joseph Institute, Sta Venera, followed by the recitation of the Rosary and the celebration of Mass.

Thanksgiving Mass

The parish choir of Zurrieq will mark its 48th anniversary with a thanksgiving Mass at St Catherine parish church on August 29 at 9.30 a.m. At the end of the Mass, the choir will sing the choir's hymn which was composed by the founder and late director, Fr Michael D' Amato, with lyrics by Fr Frans Camilleri. The director will be Paul Portelli while the organist will be Fiorella Mifsud Saydon.

Call For Projects

The Planning and Priorities Coordination Directorate (PPCD) at the Office of the Prime Minister has launched a call for projects for co-financing under the EU Structural Fund - Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG).

The application forms, annexes and guidance notes can be downloaded from the PPCD website. The call closes on September 30. Any queries with regards to filling in and the submission of application forms may be addressed to the PPCD generic e-mail at info.ppcd@gov.mt.

Back From Course

Mario Victor Galea, a teacher and librarian at Agius de Soldanis Girls Secondary School in Victoria, has followed a course at the University of Limerick in Ireland.

The course for language teachers was sponsored by a grant from the European Commission through the Socrates Coordination Committee and the participation in the Comenius 2.2 action.

Sports Festival Proceeds

The Mission Fund thanked all those who gave their services, and offered gifts and donations during their sports festival last month. The money collected, which amounts to Lm2,696 will go towards a secondary school project in Kenya and to Maltese missionaries in Third World countries.
