Obituary

GOUDER. On February 21, in Leicester, UK, EDWARD ALEXANDER, aged 84, born in Malta. He has joined his beloved Winifred née Bishop. He is and will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and colleagues.
Lord, grant him eternal rest.

SCOTT-TAGGART. On February 23, in the UK, CHRISTOPHER MALCOLM, aged 67, passed peacefully away, following a short illness. Beloved husband of Jill and proud and loving father of Christopher, Nicholas and James, his wife Lisa and their children Chloe, Ryan and Daniel.

Funeral service will be held on March 4 at 2.30 p.m. at Eastbourne Crematorium. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in Malta at a later date. May God grant him eternal rest.

New Ghasri Parish Priest

Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi has appointed Fr Edward Xuereb, 34, parish priest of Ghasri. He succeeds Fr Guzepp Cini.

After being ordained in 1995, Fr Xuereb furthered his studies at the Pontificium Institutum Utriusque in Rome.

Fr Xuereb served as parish vicar at Santa Lucia parish in Rome and carried out pastoral work in the Xewkija parish.

He is a judge in the Gozo Ecclesiastical Tribunal.

Sliema Traffic

The Malta Transport Authority said that in view of the 19th Malta marathon and half marathon tomorrow the road between the Strand, Gzira and the Ferries Sliema, in the direction of Sliema was being temporarily turned into a two-way road.

Vehicles travelling along the Ferries towards Sliema would be diverted to Manuel Dimech Street. Bisazza Street, Sliema will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Consequently, buses would be diverted to Tower Road (between Playlife and Zara) which is being, for the occasion, turned into a two-way road for public transport only.

Casual Election

The Electoral Commission has received nominations from Simon Cassar and Alfred Farrugia for a casual election to fill a post of councillor in the Msida local council.

The vacancy arose after the death of Joseph Bartolo (PN).

The counting of votes will be held at Evans Building, in Valletta on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
