Obituary
COLEIRO. Suddenly, on December 24, at her residence, RITA COLEIRO née Demajo, B.Sc., Ph.C., aged 86. She went to be reborn with Christ on His birthday and meet her dearest husband Espedito. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her son Dr Joseph Coleiro of Dundee, Scotland, her daughters Mary Rose and her husband Bernard Bugeja, and Antoinette, her loving grandchildren Dr Denise, Dr David, Claudine and their spouses, all residing in Scotland, her brother Dr Thomas Demajo and his wife Tessie, her sisters Ann Magri and Susy Portelli, her nephews, nieces, relatives from the Demajo and Coleiro families, besides many friends. - R.I.P.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 2.30 p.m. at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, followed by interment in the family chapel at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, and the Salesians of Don Bosco, Sliema, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.
DACCACHE. On December 24, Captain NASSIM, aged 61, at his residence in Vittoriosa left this valley of tears to meet the risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Risette, his children Ramona, Antoine, Joseph and Simone, his relatives in Malta and abroad, his work colleagues and many friends. -R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 3 p.m. for St Lawrence parish church in Vittoriosa where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at the Vittoriosa cemetery.
DOE. On December 25, EDWARD CHARLES BAYLEY, aged 67, living in Balzan. His wife Gill, sister Ann and nephews Jason and Gavin wish to thank all those who have helped to make his passing peaceful.

MIFSUD. On December 25, at St Luke's Hospital, ROSARIO, widower of HELEN née Bonnici, aged 81, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Exchange control
Exchange control liberalisation measures will come into effect on January 1 in line with the budget speech.
These affect the limit for payments in connection with cash gifts or remittances for family living expenses, which is being raised from the present Lm20,000 per adult person each year to Lm30,000; the removal of the limit on the annual allowance in connection with foreign portfolio investment by adult persons and the increase in the amount of foreign currency a resident is exempted from surrendering to an authorised dealer, up from the present limit of Lm20,000 to Lm50,000.
Moreover bodies corporate/local retail outlets which receive foreign currency in the course of their business activities will be exempted from surrendering such foreign currency to an institution licensed to carry on the business of foreign exchange. Such foreign currency may, however, be deposited in foreign currency accounts with local credit institutions.
Christmas concert
The G.M. Fra Antoine de Paule Philharmonic Society is hosting the Christmas Home Concert by the Kristu Re Band at the main hall of its premises in Paola Square, Paola today at 7.30 p.m.
The band, under the direction of Archibald Mizzi, will render popular and well-known works with a Christmas theme by famous composers.
The David Sammut Quartet, composed of young talented saxophonists, will also take part.
Entrance is free and everyone is invited.
The band will be rendering a programme of Christmas carols at Paola Square on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m.
Violin competition
The 7th Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition will be held in Odense, Denmark, between the May 31 and June 9 next year.
The competition is open to violinists of all nationalities under the age of 30. The participants are being offered free private accommodation but should cover travel expenses. Various prizes are being offered.
Applications together with an enrolment fee of E75 should reach the Secretariat of the Competition in Odense by not later than February 1, 2004.

English courses

Special brew
Farsons launched the Winter Glow 2003, the third brew to be launched in the special brews series this year.
Winter Glow 2003 will be followed by a special brew to usher in spring 2004.
Winter Glow - Premium Red Ale, is an all malt, full-bodied, high gravity, top fermented English type dark ale with a typical "malty" sweetness tinged with a yeast-derived fruitiness, Farsons said.
Public transport
The Malta Transport Authority said public transport on New Year's day will run from 6 a.m. to noon and then from 3.30 - 10 p.m.
The Visit Malta Bus will not operate on that day.
