Food For Charity

Foreign students attending Italian language and culture classes at the Società Dante Alighieri will be offering typical food from their countries during an activity organised to raise funds for the Sisters of Mother Theresa.

The event is being organised prior to their departure to spend the holidays with their families.

The activity will be held at Società Dante Alighieri at 134, Old Bakery Street, Valletta tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Web Awards

The third edition of the DataStream Malta Web Awards will be held in spring.

The awards seek to honour the best Maltese or Malta-related websites in different categories, said Godfrey Vella, chief executive of DataStream Limited.

The 14 categories to be awarded are: art and culture; business and corporate; community, voluntary and non-profit; e-commerce; education and training; personal, hobbies and specific interest; made in Malta; media, news and current events; music and entertainment; public sector; sports and recreation; travel and tourism; use of broadband and young developer.

TV Winner

Joseph Sant of Rabat has won a 28'' Sharp TV set in the monthly lottery organised by Flamingo Tool Centre and co-sponsored by Britannia Tours and the Grand Prix Inc. of Bay Street, St Julian's.

Clients buying items from the tool centre and Grand Prix Inc. in Bay Street are entitled to a free ticket with every Lm10 spent. They will also be eligible for the draw of two grand prizes: a trip and tickets for two to the Grand Prix of Barcelona in May 2004 and that of Monza the following September.

Pantomime

Atturi Playhouse is presenting the pantomime Ozi s-Sahhar, based on the story of the Wizard of Oz, at the Salesian Theatre, in Sliema.

The play is being directed by Joe Quattromani.

There are performances tomorrow and on December 20 at 7.30 p.m., on December 19 at 8 p.m. and on December 14 and 21 at 3 and at 6 p.m.

Week at Sandals

Catherine Stevens and Steve Chetcuti are spending a week in one of the Sandals resorts in Jamaica after winning a competition organised by P&A Sullivan, exclusive agents for Sandals.

The competition was organised in collaboration with Air Jamaica and Sandals, and was open to couples visiting the P&A Sullivan stand at the Wedding's Fair in November.

MHRA President

Winston Zahra has been re-elected president of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association.

According to the statute, the president is appointed for a one-year term with a maximum of two years' tenure.

Annual Concert

The Christ the King band of the Socjetà Filarmonika G.M. Fra Antoine de Paule in Paola will be holding its annual concert at the Radisson SAS Baypoint on Sunday at 7.30 p.m. Entrance is free.

Rabbit Championship

The Malta Rabbit Club is holding its annual national winter championship at its headquarters, Nissen Hut 3, Luqa Road, Qormi, tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

First Aid Courses

St John Ambulance is holding first aid courses for housewives, mothers, students and employees from various companies, at its headquarters in Valletta.

Courses in Maltese will start on January 14 at 9.30 a.m. while an evening course will start on January 14. A course in English will start on January 15 at 6.30 p.m.

Registration will be accepted at the headquarters, 5 Independence Square, Valletta on Tuesday evenings between 6.30 and 7.30 p.m., or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Franco Piccinino, honorary secretary, courses, at the same address for an application.

Danish Folk Courses

The Danish Folk High School Grant Scheme is offering to help young people from new EU states to take part in courses at Danish Folk High Schools.

The schools offer courses in history, arts, music, sports, philosophy, theatre, photography and many other subjects. There are no tests or exams.

Further information may be obtained from the Scholarships Section of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Valletta, the Information Section, Banca Giuratale, Victoria, Gozo, or the Danish Centre for International Cooperation and Mobility in Education and Training.
