Obituary
ALBANESE. On September 11, at Marina Palace Home, Msida, TESSIE, aged 96, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her nieces and nephews, Mary and Victor Portelli, Dora and Paul Ripard, Mariette and Joe Micallef, Tony and Terry, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 8.30 a.m. for Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
CASSANO. On September 12, at St Luke's Hospital, INES née Navarro, widow of Carmelo, residing at St Paul's Bay, aged 83, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sister Maggie, residing in Australia, her brother Anton and his wife Evelyn, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

Art display
The Sta Venera section of the Nationalist Party is to hold an art exhibition as part of activities to mark the 39th anniversary of Malta's independence.
Painting, ceramics and sculptures by Bernard Attard, Marika Azzopardi Balzan, John Martin Borg, Gabriel Caruana, Joseph P. Cassar, Jessica Debattista, Chris Ebejer, Francis Galea, Sina Farrugia, Jesmond Grech and Charles Sammut will be exhibited between tomorrow and September 20.
The exhibition will be held at the PN club in Fleur-de-Lys.
Artists Gallery
A new venue for exhibitions, the The Artists Gallery in Old Railway Track, Sta Venera, will open on September 20 on the initiative of Paul Hili Framemakers, whose outlet adjoins the gallery.
The first exhibition will feature works by seven artists: Carmelo Apap, Ray Azzopardi, Joseph Barbara, Lawrence Buttigieg, Francis Galea, Paul Galea and Francis Gauci who will display paintings and sculptures.
The exhibition will run until October 4. It will be open Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 4 to 7 p.m. as well as on Saturdays from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Photography course
The Malta Photographic Society is accepting applications for its annual course in basic photography starting October 14.
The course consists of 10 lectures delivered by the society's most experienced members and accompanied by slide presentations and often including practical work.
Participants will be given a set of handouts to complement the lectures, to be held at the society's premises at 137, Old Bakery Street, Valletta, every Tuesday.
Would-be participants are to write to the Malta Photographic Society, Starting Photography Course, PO Box 590, Valletta, CMR 01, for an application form, which should be returned with a fee of Lm20 by not later than September 22.
'Ambling around Rome'
An exhibition by Gudrun Sleiter, entitled "Ambling around Rome", will be inaugurated on October 2 at the Italian Cultural Institute, in Valletta.
Ms Sleiter obtained her diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts, in Rome and subsequently followed the experimental etching course at the Calcografia Nazionale of Rome. She has participated in several personal and in collective exhibitions in Europe and in the United States.
Born in Germany, Ms Sleiter now lives and works in Rome.
Tropical fish exhibition
The Malta Aquarist Society is holding an exhibition of tropical fish in some 200 aquariums in St Publius Hall, below Floriana church from today. The exhibition remains open up to September 22 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
IT courses
Sta Venera residents who are aged 16 and over are being offered the opportunity to train in computer hardware and software, internet, electronic mail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint.
The courses, which are free, are being given through an initiative of the local council and ST Microelectronics. Lectures are to be held at ST's Learning Institute in Kirkop once weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays between 5 and 8 p.m.
Applications are available from Sta Venera council.
Mother Earth
Barclays Bank International is sponsoring an exhibition by Jeni Caruana entitled "Remembering Mother Earth" which is inspired by the prehistoric temples.
The works, in watercolour, acrylics or mixed media, are on show at the National Museum of Archaeology in Republic Street, Valletta until September 30.
