Obituary

GALEA. On August 16, at Saint James Hospital, Sliema, ANNIE, aged 84, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sister Mary and her husband Paul Pullicino, her brother-in-law Dieter Karch, her nephews and nieces Angela Crockford, Richard Galea, Andrew Pullicino, Anne Rutter Giappone, Claire Lanfranco and their respective spouses, her great-nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. The funeral leaves Saint James Hospital, Sliema today at 2.15 p.m. for St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Creche, Sliema and St Patrick's School, Sliema will be appreciated.

MICALLEF. On August 15, at St Luke's Hospital, CARMEN née Vella, aged 78, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband Alex, her son Ray and his wife Pauline, her daughter Gabrielle, wife of David Dingli, her grandchildren Karen, Alexandra and Michael, her brothers Lee and his wife Mary, Joe and his wife Ramona, both residing in the US and Rennie residing in Canada, her sister Joyce, her in-laws Sydney, Mary, widow of Edmond, and Elda, wife of Dr Alfred Bonnici, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 9 a.m. at St Mary's parish church, Attard, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

A Mass for the repose of the soul of ANTHONY PAUL GALDES will be said on Saturday, August 20 at 6.30 p.m. at Mount St Joseph Retreat House, Targa Gap, Mosta. The presence of relatives and friends will be appreciated.

First Aid Courses

St John Ambulance will be holding first aid courses in Maltese and in English at its headquarters in Valletta.

A course in English will start on August 30 at 6.30 p.m. and run twice a week every Tuesday and Thursday. Courses in Maltese will start on August 29 at 6.30 p.m. running twice a week every Monday and Wednesday, and on August 30 at 9.30 a.m. running twice a week every Tuesday and Thursday.

A course consists of nine lectures, lasting approximately two hours each. The fee is Lm10, which includes a workbook, training material and certification.

St John Ambulance first aid courses are recognised locally by government regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Legal Notices and also by EU regulations.

CISA Exam

Fourteen of the 17 candidates who sat for the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) exam in June, administered by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), achieved a pass mark.

With more than 47,000 members in more than 140 countries, ISACA (www.isaca.org) is a recognised worldwide leader in IT governance, control, security and assurance. Founded in 1969, it sponsors international conferences, publishes the Information Systems Control Journal, develops international information systems auditing and control standards, and administers the globally respected CISA designation earned by more than 40,000 professionals since inception and the Certified Information Security Manager designation.

The local ISACA chapter was officially recognised in March and this year was only the second time in two years that the CISA examination was held locally.

Chinese Film

The Chinese film Breaking The Silence, which created a sensation at the Cannes and Montreal film festivals, will be screened at the premises of the Malta China Friendship Society, at 62, St Christopher Street, Valletta, on August 25 at 8 p.m.

The leading role is played by the world acclaimed Chinese actress Gong Li. The film is directed by Sun Zhou who has helped to make Chinese films famous in Hollywood.

Gong Li won the best actress award in both festivals for her role in this film, a heartbreaking but inspirational story of a young beautiful Chinese woman who was abandoned by her husband when she gave birth to a deaf child. Her determination to give the best cure to her son and to integrate him into Chinese society makes the story unforgettable.

A donation of 50c would be appreciated. The society is a voluntary, non-funded organisation.

Education Conference

The Association of School Councils (AKS) will hold a conference at the Dolmen Resort Hotel on September 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss the document For All Children To Succeed. After the meeting there will be a small reception next to the pool. Entrance is free and tickets have to be collected beforehand from AKS, c/o Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, Floriana, from Monday to August 26 between 9 a.m. and noon. Power Cut

The electricity supply will be suspended today in Manikata from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Il-Biedja,

L-Ghabex, Il-Gilju, Dun Manwel Grima, Il-Knisja l-Qadima,

Traffic Diversion

Due to emergency water works along Triq V. Dimech in Floriana, traffic from Valletta will be diverted through Il-Mall, Triq Vincenzo Bugeja and Pjazza San Kalcidonju, Floriana until further notice. Traffic towards Valletta will be unaffected.
