Appreciation - Alfred Giglio

Ms Anna Ruggier, of Zabbar, writes:

A terrible shock and a great loss for all. Alfred Giglio is irreplaceable!

I have never found more gentleness, genuineness, goodness, humility, sporting spirit, clean humour and good nature in one person. During the years I worked at the Photography Department of Allied Newspapers Ltd I had never met anyone with more good qualities than those which Alfred was adorned with.

I had known Alfred since 1971, when he joined the company at the tender age of 15. Alfred was the best consolation I had in my department. He was a perfect gentleman, ever since he was a boy.

At work, when he was asked to perform a task, it made no difference whether it was as a duty or a favour. He would go out of his way to please anyone, even people he had just met, without expecting acknowledgment or a thank you. He was always ready to do more than his duty required.

Alfred was truly an exception. He was blessed with a special good nature and plenty of good qualities. He was unique. The crowded church at his farewell Mass at St Paul Shipwrecked church in Valletta, is evidence of the kind-hearted person Alfred was, as Fr Charles Tabone, who delivered the homily, remarked.

Although they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, I was always fond of him, and always spoke highly of him, as my workmates and colleagues can confirm.

I cannot find enough words to console his dear mum and dad and all his family, whom he treasured and cherished so much. Very few families have the honour and pride of having had such a loving and dedicated son, brother, uncle and cousin, and indeed, a friend. As they say, the good die young.

The void he left is tremendous. At the same time, his presence and goodness is felt more than ever before. The faith and hope in the Holy Family will give the strength and courage to accept his parting.

I offer my condolences to Alfred's family and friends, and directors and staff at Allied Newspapers.
