The recent agreement between the government and the trade unions on article 64 of the proposed labour law was the fruit of social dialogue.

The kick-start was the meeting of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development between the government and social partners, requested by the UHM. During this meeting, which was also attended by the minister of social policy, the council discussed the labour law in question.

The UHM has been harping on the idea that the proper handling of disputes through social dialogue in the MCESD brings the desired results. The agreement on the labour law proves this.

The government and the unions must continue to find ways and reasons so that industrial disputes are resolved with the least possible damage.

The UHM stand is clear on this issue. The country cannot lose this opportunity.
