The University of Malta has received over 103 Erasmus students for the second semester of the academic year 2003/04. Students hail from various countries; Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the United Kingdom. These students will join the full year Socrates/Erasmus students and will be following courses and taking credits at the University of Malta.
Various social and cultural activities are organised annually for Erasmus students participating in the Socrates/Erasmus Programme. At the start of each semester, an orientation day is held for the incoming Erasmus students. This consists of a full morning of activities and talks, introducing students to the University and Malta, life on campus and Maltese culture. The Student Council (KSU), and other student organisations such as AEGEE helped out on the day taking care of welcoming their fellow students and introducing them to the University and its surroundings.
An Intensive Language Preparation Course will be offered for the new Erasmus students interested to learn the Maltese language, acquire knowledge and gain insight into the socio-cultural history of the Maltese islands. Incoming students also have the opportunity to follow an English language course at the International School of English. The Socrates Office is in constant contact with various partner Universities to make the Erasmus Mobility Programme possible for both local and foreign students.
