An Armed Forces of Malta soldier was yesterday charged with assaulting a Liberian man and inciting racial hatred in April this year.

Jason Pisani, 32 of Valletta, pleaded not guilty to threatening, assaulting and slightly injuring Musa Bagayoka, inciting racial hatred, uttering obscene words while drunk and committing a crime he was duty bound to prevent on April 1 in Sliema.

Police Inspector Stephen Gatt prosecuted.

Dr José Herrera and Dr Roberto Montalto appeared for Mr Pisani.
