The presidents of four leading Premier League clubs yesterday joined Victor Zammit in deploring the harsh comments made by MFA president Joe Mifsud towards the Birkirkara FC chairman last week.
"We refer to the recent issue between the Malta FA and the five Premier clubs regarding the UEFA HatTrick Club licensing incentive scheme which has escalated to unwarranted comments," the statement, signed by the presidents of Valletta, Hibs, Marsaxlokk, Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara said.
"We, the presidents of the clubs that participated in the European competitions in the last four years, deplore the personal insults towards one of the presidents and give our full support to the cause."
Dr Mifsud hit out at Zammit after the latter was quoted as saying in a local newspaper that the MFA had been fined by UEFA for failing to abide by the guidelines of HatTrick Club licensing scheme, which claim has been vigorously denied by the MFA president.
Those signing the statement yesterday were Victor Sciriha (Valletta), Tony Bezzina (Hibs), Robert Micallef (Marsaxlokk), Steve Abela (Sliema) and Zammit (Birkirkara).
