A sombre atmosphere filled the air at Joe Farrugia’s self-styled Manchester United museum in San Ġwann yesterday as friends watched the news on TV about the retirement of the football club’s 71-year old manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The garage-turned-museum, known as The Midani Collection after Mr Farrugia’s nickname, was opened in 2009 with a vast collection of Man. Utd memorabilia.

Some had watery eyes and one said he was not in the mood to work when the news of Sir Alex’s retirement at the end of the season started filtering through.
