Some authority!

I read in today's paper (June 26): "We are doing our utmost to minimise the impact. But whatever you do in this country you never win - just imagine the consequences we would have had to face if we had refused to issue a permit for the Elton John concert" - the Malta Transport Authority CEO, Mario Falzon. Not issue a permit is exactly and precisely what the so-called authority ought to have done.

What Elton John or his cronies "insist on" is of no relevance to me whatsoever and I suspect that goes for most people around. If he must visit these islands he should have been offered Ta' Qali with, maybe, Mdina as a historical backdrop - take it or leave it. This is no papal, or equivalent visit, but a run-of-the-mill rock concert, for heaven's sake.

The people in their majority here are sick and tired of being inconvenienced and bullied by one authority or another, starting with the wardens and the boys in blue, upwards.
