Grand Harbour Marina executive director Tony Demajo said the granting of the planning permit by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority for the Cottonera marina last week would enable the company to press ahead with works to enable the marina to open next year.

Over the coming winter, the super yacht moorings will be laid, together with the installation of the first phase of the pontoon berths, he said.

"Now that we have been given the green light we will be plotting our course towards the implementation of a super yacht marina that will complement the backdrop and the historic three cities that surround it," Mr Demajo said.

He said that a number of berths had already been allocated for clients on long term licences and deposits had been received for many of the pontoon berths.

The marina is being developed in association with Camper & Nicholsons.
