Son denies grievously injuring his mother
The woman suffered facial injuries
A 28-year-old man was remanded in custody on Tuesday after he was accused of grievously injuring his mother.
The man, an unemployed St Julian’s resident, pleaded not guilty to grievously injuring his mother, causing her to fear that violence would be used against her, and breaching bail conditions imposed in January.
Police inspector Colin Sheldon told the court that on May 17 the mother of the accused filed a police report at Naxxar station at 3am, after she ensured that her son was asleep. Police officers noticed that she needed medical assistance and took her to hospital. She was certified to be suffering grievous facial injuries.
She told the police that her son had taken her mobile phone. She demanded its return and also told him and his partner to leave the house. They refused and her son acted aggressively towards her.
The inspector said an arrest warrant was issued. When the police went to the residence, they found the accused in a "bad state". He was then taken to Mater Dei Hospital, and later Mount Carmel Hospital.
The accused was released from Mount Carmel Hospital on Monday, and another arrest warrant was issued.
In court on Tuesday, the accused, pleaded not guilty to all charges. Bail was not requested during the arraignment.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech presided the court. Lawyer Kristina Bartolo from the Attorney General's office prosecuted with police inspector Colin Sheldon.
Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Anthea Zammit appeared on behalf of the accused.
