Soprano Connie Frances Zerafa will be giving a recital at St Dominic's church, Rabat, on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. She will be accompanied by organist Romina Morrow. Entrance to the concert is free.
Ms Zerafa will sing sacred pieces, including various versions of Ave Maria, by Durante, Caccini, Arcadelt, Schubert, Gounod, Mendelssohn, Ketelby, Stephen Adams, Bach, Cesar Franck (Panis Angelicus), Faure (Pie Jesu from his famous Requiem), and Mozart, including Exsultate, jubilate.
Connie Frances Zerafa (née Attard) was born in Toronto, Canada, on April 4, 1974. In her early teens, she studied drama and participated in many plays and concerts. She also studied various instruments including clarinet, alto and soprano saxophone and oboe with Joseph Gatt, former president of the Malta Band Clubs' Association. At the age of 16, she moved with her family to Malta.
Connie obtained her grade 8 pianoforte with Betty Eastwood, LRSM. For six years, she has been studying vocal technique and interpretation with Antoinette Miggiani, the renowned dramatic soprano. In July 1998, Ms Zerafa attended master classes organised by ECUME with Laure Florentin in Marseille, where she also celebrated in the Festival de Marseilles.
In May 1999, Ms Zerafa made her debut at the Manoel Theatre in Masquerade's production The King and I as Lady Thiang. Last year, she performed at the Christmas and Mother's Day concerts organised by Attard parish church. Every Sunday, Ms Zerafa sings at the 11.15 a.m. English Mass at St Dominic's church in Rabat.
She is also an assistant lecturer of chemistry at G.F. Abela Junior College and has held the post for the past four years. At the college, she has participated in several Christmas concerts and soirées as the choirmistress and as part of the senior production team.
