Busy Regional Road blocked as trailer skids in Kappara
A crash barrier was pulled out into the middle of the road by the crash
The busy Regional Road was closed for more than two hours on Wednesday afternoon after a trailer skidded in Kappara.
The heavy vehicle was heading south when it hit the centre strip, pulled down an electricity pole and dragged a crash barrier with it as it ended up on the inner side of the road, blocking both south and north-bound lanes.
The accident happened at about 2pm a few metres up the road from the petrol station in Kappara. The road, which is the principal north-south route in the country, was wet at the time.
"It's a disaster, there is a long traffic jam and cars are being diverted, a motorist said.
Transport Malta urged motorists to avoid the area.
Police, Lesa and even AFM officers were on the scene. An ambulance was also seen, but no one was injured, police said.
