Spanish police have arrested a Mafia boss who faces extradition to his native Italy, where he has a 24-year jail term pending for drugs offences, police said yesterday.
They identified the 49-year-old as "Humberto A." and said he was a boss of the Camorra, the Neapolitan Mafia. The man was arrested in Barcelona at Italy's request.
Italian and Spanish police tracked him down after he made calls from several public telephones in the Barcelona neighbourhood of L'Eixample, the police said in a statement.
Police seized Italian identity documents belonging to another person and €6,700 from the apartment where the man had been staying.
They said they had handed over the man to judicial authorities who would start the process of extraditing him.
