The Jesuit Refugee Service Malta said Christmas is a time to rejoice and to spend quality time with one's family.

It invited everyone to think of all those individuals who are spending time away from their families because of various circumstances. Special thoughts and prayers go to immigrants locked up in detention centres and to the soldiers and police officers who will be spending Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with them, it said.

JRS Malta said its offices will be closed from Monday to January 1.
