Hamrun Spartans FC coach Michael Degiorgio was yesterday handed a one-year suspension by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner for his involvement in incidents that broke up at the end of Sunday's Division One match against Mosta at the Tedesco Stadium.

The case referred to the mayhem that erupted after the final whistle following Mosta's 1-0 win over the Spartans. Degiorgio was reported by the referee to have hit a top Mosta FC official.

Degiorgio, a former Malta international, was appointed Hamrun coach at the start of the season. Yesterday, he was handed a 12-month ban and will only return to his team's bench on February 22, 2006.

Meanwhile, five Premier League players were suspended one match.

Saviour Darmanin, the Birkirkara keeper whose sending-off against Hibernians on Monday stirred a lot of controversy, Christian Cassar (Floriana), Andrè Schembri (Marsaxlokk), Brian Said (Sliema) and Jonathan Bondin (Valletta) all received a one-match ban.
