Speak out about Gaza outrage, Delia insists in Holocaust comparison

'Our silent and private condemnation is useless', says PN leadership contestant

Adrian Delia has urged people to speak up against Israeli atrocities in Gaza, also making comparisons to what the Jews suffered in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Second World War.

The PN leadership contestant referred to powerful voices who are speaking out like Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories - who last week was placed under US sanctions following her criticism of Washington policy on Gaza.

"To these I wish to add my own," Delia said.

"Without the constant support of the USA and many countries in our European Union, the Israeli effort will falter and the genocide will stop. Our silent and private condemnation is useless. We must speak out. All of us should voice our outrage at what is happening in Gaza in the same way that we expressed outrage at what happened in Auschwitz."

Albanese has faced harsh criticism from Israel and some of its allies over her relentless criticism and long-standing accusations that Israel is committing "genocide" in Gaza.

The Italian-born expert, who assumed her mandate in 2022, released a damning report  this month denouncing companies -- many of them American -- that she said "profited from the Israeli economy of illegal occupation, apartheid, and now genocide" in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The report provoked a furious Israeli response, while some of the companies also raised objections.

In his post, Delia said that when growing up and learning history, he felt strong solidarity with the victims of the holocaust.

"The same sense of solidarity informs my stance today, but it is directed towards the occupied and martyred Palestinians, he said.

"On the 7th of October 2023, Hamas attacked Israel in a brutal and condemnable attack. I abhor the attack, the loss of life and the hostage-taking, but the brutal Israeli occupation is as much to blame for the death and kidnap of its citizens. Since then, the Israelis have killed, raped and tortured tens of thousands of Palestinians with the goal of turning the occupation of a people into its annihilation."
