Anne Aquilina, 47, wife of John Aquilina, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales, passed away on Sunday.
Besides running her physiotherapy practice, Mrs Aquilina lived a public life as the wife of Mr Aquilina, who in his career has been mayor, member of parliament, minister and now speaker.
Mrs Aquilina also played a role in helping out with local sport, especially the St. Patrick's Soccer Club at Blacktown and the Parramatta Eagles Soccer Club.
Mr and Mrs Aquilina were married in Corowa in 1977, two months after Mr Aquilina became mayor of Blacktown, in Sydney's western suburbs, where there is a large concentration of Maltese emigrants.
MLP leader Alfred Sant has sent condolences to Mr Aquilina.
