The speaker of the state parliament of New South Wales, Australia, John Aquilina, will be travelling to Malta on Wednesday to visit family and friends and meet government officials.
Mr Aquilina was born in Msida and emigrated to Australia at six years old.
After four years as mayor of the major metropolitan area of Blacktown, he was elected to the NSW parliament in 1981 and served continuously as a Labour Party frontbencher between 1986-2003.
He spent 10 years as minister and another seven as shadow minister before becoming speaker.
Mr Aquilina represents the western Sydney seat of Riverstone in the Parliament. The area has a significant Maltese population.
