New stadium: Liverpool's plans to leave Anfield and move to a new 60,000-seat stadium were given the green light by city authorities earlier this week, a spokesman said. He said Secretary of State for Communities Hazel Blears now had to give final approval, with the Premier League club then having three years to build the £300m Stanley Park stadium. The plans include retaining the Premier League club's landmark steeply-banked Kop end as an integral part of the design.

Super Pyunik: Pyunik Yerevan beat city rivals Ararat 4-1 yesterday to clinch their seventh consecutive Armenian league title with a game to spare. The win gave Pyunik 57 points from 27 matches, while second-placed Banants Yerevan remained on 49 after a 1-0 defeat at Mika Ashtarak. Pyunik have dominated Armenian soccer for the last decade, winning nine titles since 1996 and will represent the small Caucasus country in next year's Champions League qualifiers.
