Admits mistake: The referee who controversially disallowed Luis Perea's goal for Atletico Madrid against derby rivals Real Madrid on Saturday has acknowledged he made a mistake. Arturo Dauden Ibanez appeared to give Perea's 15th-minute effort before ruling it out when the linesman flagged for offside. The goal would have given Atletico a 2-0 lead in a Primera Liga match that eventually finished 1-1. "I have seen the television replays and we were wrong," Ibanez said.

Voronin: Liverpool have confirmed Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin will join the club at the end of the season. The Premier League team said an agreement had been reached with the 27-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player. Voronin, a free agent at the end of the season, has also had spells in Germany with Cologne, Mainz and Borussia Moenchengladbach. He was a member of Ukraine's squad at the World Cup finals in Germany last year.

Rangers assistant manager Richard Hill, who has already been suspended by the club for his part in the fight, was separately charged with violent conduct.

Wanchope: Former Costa Rica striker Paulo Wanchope has been criticised by his FC Tokyo manager for being off the pace in a pre-season match. Wanchope was replaced 10 minutes into the second half of Sunday's game with Tokyo Verdy. "He didn't work hard enough. He's out of synch with the rest of the team," coach Hiromi Hara told yesterday's Nikkan Sports.

Platinum Player: Former Japan international Kazuyoshi Miura declared himself a 'platinum player' after turning 40 yesterday. "I'm not a veteran anymore," the Yokohama FC striker told reporters. "You pass that mark around 35. From now I'll be known as a platinum player." Miura is struggling with a sore hamstring and could miss the start of the new J-League season on March 3.
