ECUADOR: Ecuador's champions Deportivo Quito paid their debts and had a suspension lifted on Friday in time to play their first division match against Manta, the Ecuadorean Football Federation (FEF) said. The club were suspended indefinitely in midweek over a debt of $207,517 with the FEF and two of the club's former players and were told they would lose the points from their match with Manta if they did not settle it by Friday.
CRICKET: Former test captain Waqar Younis accepted an offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board to take over as national team coach yesterday, a day after the PCB had offered him the position. Waqar who played 87 tests and 262 one-day internationals between 1989 and 2003 said the PCB had given him a contract that runs through the 2011 World Cup.
TENNIS: Reigning Olympic champion Elena Dementieva is set to claim another singles title at the Malaysian Open after a 6-1, 6-3 win in the semi-finals yesterday over Austria's Sybille Bammer. "I don't know so much about Sochi," he said.
