Fulham: Former Tottenham boss Martin Jol is set to return to the Premier League as manager of Fulham, The Sun reported yeserday. According to the tabloid Jol will be unveiled as Roy Hodgson’s successor today after Fulham agreed a compensation package with the Dutchman’s present club, Ajax.

Reid: Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid is due to see a specialist after his hopes of returning from injury were dealt a setback. The 27-year-old Irishman did not join his team-mates as they flew out for the club’s pre-season training camp on the Algarve yesterday after picking up an Achilles problem.

Zwanziger: The president of the German FA, Theo Zwanziger, 65, has raised doubts about his future in the role by admitting he is “tired” of the job. Elections are due to take place in October and it is now no longer certain that Zwanziger will stand for re-election. “That is totally open at the moment,” he said. “I am a bit tired of the job. I am feeling a deep desire for a more private life.”

Kewell: Australia international Harry Kewell has agreed a new one-year contract with Galatasaray. The 31-year-old has not played a full match for the Turkish giants since December due to injury problems. He has scored 16 goals in 41 appearances since joining the club in 2008. The former Leeds and Liverpool forward underwent groin surgery in January.

Remy: Nice president Gilbert Stellardo has revealed he will hold a meeting with Loic Remy as the striker bids to complete a move to the Premier League. Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham are all reported to be interested in the France international although the Hammers appear to be in pole position. A sticking point according to Nice remains West Ham’s desire to pay in instalments.

Saadane: Algeria have extended Rabah Saadane’s contract by a further two years, keeping the coach in charge of the national team until after the next African Nations Cup. Saadane has been at the helm since 2007.

Cricket: England cricketer Graeme Swann has been charged with drink driving. The Nottinghamshire off-spinner, ranked the third best Test bowler in the world, was stopped near his home in the West Bridgford area of Nottingham, central England, on April 2. The 31-year-old will appear before magistrates in Nottingham on August 16.

Motor Racing: Yvan Muller extended his World Touring Car Championship lead as Britain’s Andy Priaulx secured a home victory in race two at Brands Hatch on Sunday. Chevrolet driver Muller took the spoils in race one at the Kent circuit, and followed that up with a fifth place in the second race to increase his points lead over SEAT driver Gabriele Tarquini to 23 points. Priaulx then took his fourth win of the season to end the day 53 points adrift of Muller.

Rugby Union: South Africa lock Andries Bekker has been ruled out of Saturday’s Tri-Nations Test against Australia in Brisbane with a back injury. The South Africa Rugby Union yesterday confirmed that Bekker suffered an acute disc injury during Saturday’s 31-17 defeat to New Zealand in Wellington.

Golf: Tiger Woods has kept his seventh place in the US Ryder Cup standings after his 23rd place finish in The Open at St Andrews. Only the top eight after the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits on August 15 qualify automatically for the match at Celtic Manor in Wales on October 1-3.

Cycling: Team Sky leader Bradley Wiggins is determined to persevere in the Tour de France despite failing to match his own expectations to date. After losing four minutes 59 seconds to stage winner Christophe Riblon on Sunday, Wiggins labelled his fourth-placed finish in 2009 a “fluke”. Wiggins said: “Last year was a bit of a fluke in the sense that it wasn’t planned throughout the year.”
