RANGERS: Striker Alfredo Morelos will be part of Rangers’ Europa League squad after the Ibrox side beat UEFA’s transfer deadline to seal his signature. The Ibrox outfit confirmed the signing of the 20-year-old from Finnish side HJK Helsinki on a three-year deal just hours after learning their first two qualifying-round opponents. Boss Pedro Caixinha is pinning his hopes on the youngster’s deadly scoring record as he prepares the Light Blues for their first European clash in six years.
EVERTON: Everton have strengthened their Premier League 2-winning squad by signing Holland Under-18 international Nathangelo Markelo from Dutch second division side FC Volendam on a three-year contract. The 18-year-old, who can play at centre-back or on the right side of defence, will go straight into under-23 coach David Unsworth’s set-up as they begin preparations to defend their inaugural title.
MLS: Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two late goals as the New York Red Bulls beat the 10-man Philadelphia Union 2-0 in Major League Soccer. The Englishman broke the deadlock in the 87th minute and struck again in stoppage time, after Philly had Derrick Jones sent off earlier in the second half. The win takes the Red Bulls fifth in the Eastern Conference, moving ahead of Atlanta United and the Columbus Crew. Philadelphia remain 10th, with only former champions DC United guided by Ben Olsen below them.
