Everton: Everton manager David Moyes says he will look to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Everton are the Premier League's lowest scorers with four goals this season, a figure that has left them in the relegation zone with three wins in 12 games. "We have the worst scoring record in the Premier League so we know where the problems are," Moyes said. "That's the area I feel we need to strengthen in January if possible." Moyes added he may look to sign a new goalkeeper as well, as he is losing faith in Nigel Martyn's back-up Richard Wright.

Fraud: A Dutch court handed former Vitesse Arnhem chairman Karel Aalbers a 20,000 euro fine and a two-month suspended jail sentence yesterday after finding him guilty of tax fraud and forgery. Aalbers was convicted over a fraudulent contract for Greek striker Nikos Machlas, but cleared of five other charges relating to transfers involving Pierre van Hooijdonk, Dejan Curovic, Roy Makaay and Ferdi Vierklau. Machlas's contract stated he earned 500,000 guilders per month (230,000 euros) but he actually received 2.5 million guilders (1.15 million euros).

Di Vaio: Liverpool are pondering a January move for unsettled Valencia striker Marco Di Vaio. The Italian is desperate to leave Spain and Liverpool are the latest club linked with his signature. Although both Milan sides have been strongly paired with the 29-year-old, boss Rafa Benitez is keen on bringing him to Anfield. With Djibril Cisse reportedly almost certainly set for a return to France after Christmas, Benitez is keen for a replacement.

Grichting: Swiss defender Stephane Grichting, who was taken to hospital after his country's World Cup playoff win against Turkey ended in violence, expects to be back in action next week. Grichting, who did not play in last week's match in Istanbul, was kicked in the stomach and needed a catheter inserted. "I still feel the pain, it burns," the Auxerre player said. "I will take some tests on Friday. Should they be OK, I'll be fit to play on Monday."
