Rustu: Turkish goalkeeper Rustu Recber has finished his loan spell at Fenerbahce and is keen to meet Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain to negotiate a return to the Spanish champions. The 31-year-old joined Barca from Fenerbahce in 2003, but was loaned back to the Turkish side last year as he took up one of the club's three non-EU places allowed under Spanish Football Federation rules. A recent revision of his status as a Turkish national, however, means he would no longer occupy a non-EU place. "I want to return to a great club like Barca and will fight to be a first-choice player," he said.

Carew: French champions Olympique Lyon are interested in signing Norway striker John Carew from Besiktas. Lyon want an experienced forward to strengthen their attack in an attempt to improve on their Champions League record. They have failed to go beyond the quarter-finals in the competition for the last two seasons. Carew, 25, joined Turkish side Besiktas last season after a year with Roma.

Hoyzer: Referee Robert Hoyzer's decision to reveal everything about Germany's match-fixing scandal deserves leniency, his lawyer said. Hoyzer is awaiting trial in Germany after it was discovered he had taken €67,000 euros in bribes from a betting gang to rig matches. "I recommended he told everything, collaborated with the law and asked for forgiveness, as he has done. I hope this will encourage leniency when they come to sentence my client," Cato Dill said.

Portsmouth: Colombia midfielder John Viafara has left the 2004 Libertadores Cup winners Once Caldas to join Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee. "We have signed another top class player. He (Viafara) is a box-to-box player and very competitive," Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie said.
