Jeno Kamuti, president of the International Committee for Fair Play, will be among the lecturers for a sports journalism course between Monday and Saturday at the Hilton Hotel.

Dr Kamuti, a former world fencing champion, will address participants on Friday and next Saturday. The Ghaqda Kittieba Sport (GhKS) and the Tumas Fenech Foundation have linked together to organise the course, the first of its kind on our islands.

The Malta Institute of Journalists are also helping with the organisation of this course which is open to sports writers, public relations officers, University students and anyone who has an interest in sports journalism.

Headed by Mario Schiavone, the course will feature contributions from Dr Henry Frendo, Dr Stefan Frendo, Malcolm Naudi, Charles Flores, Martin Debattista, Pierre Cassar and Dr Kyrill Micallef Stafrace.

Each session throughout the six-day course will be presided by different people, namely, Fr Joe Borg, Dr George Abela, Lewis Portelli, Charles Mizzi and Dr George Mallia.

The course will cover several key aspects such as the history of journalism in Malta, the Press Act, the right for information, statutes and by-laws throughout the history of the AIPS and the GhKS, marketing vis-a-vis journalism, doping in sport and Fair Play.

At the launching earlier this week, President Emeritus Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici said the Foundation had long felt the need to hold a sports-related course which is primarily aimed at enhancing the standard of sports journalism.

Charles Camenzuli, president of the GhKS, said the course is part of his organisation's activities commemorating its 30th anniversary.
