I cannot stomach the arrogance of the owners of illegal Armier boathouses who, instead of being grateful that no legal action is contemplated against them for illegally occupying public land, persist in their illegal demands.

The current value of the area in question runs into hundreds of thousands of Maltese liri and the government should never just consider the idea of distributing such wealth among these chosen few. And it is not just that these squatters would be rewarded for usurping public property instead of being made to pay for the period of their occupation.

I only hope that the government will not set a precedent and succumb to their illegal demands. It should not even consider negotiating anything which might give the impression of acceding to illegality.

The government should stand firm on this question as a matter of principle, knowing that it has the backing of all the Maltese.
