St Martin's College Drama Troupe will be holding master classes in drama, voice and dance during the last two weeks in August. These classes which will be open for adults and young adults (12+), will be held in the theatre, music and dance studios at Chiswick House School in Kappara between 5.30 and 9.30 p.m.
Conducting the classes will be a team of experts in their field. Helena Lewis who will be coming to Malta specifically for these classes will conduct the drama sessions.
Helena Lewis trained at the City Literary Acting Institute and the London Contemporary Dance School. Her acting experience includes performances at the Edinburgh Festival, the King's Head Theatre, Greenwich Studio Theatre and a schools tour of Macbeth.
She has taught drama at Core, an arts centre for adults, and co-directed for Tower Youth Theatre, one of London's leading amateur companies. She was the youth representative on the organising committee for the first European Youth Theatre Encounter, which brought together groups of young people from 20 countries. Helena has also helped run a circus skills project and dance and drama breakfast club. In her classes Helena will include monologue and duologue work, work with masks and circus skills.
The voice classes are being conducted by well-known soprano and voice tutor Gillian Zammit. Ms Zammit is the musical director at Drama Troupe and has been responsible for the vocal training in the productions The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Young People's Messiah in Song and Dance, and Old Befana. She is presently working on another musical production by Australian composer Anne Boyd - The Little Mermaid - scheduled to be held at St James Cavalier in September. The classes will include breathing and vocal techniques for individuals and groups.
Felix Busuttil, who runs the College of Jazz Dance with Justin Roy Barker, has been responsible for several dance productions including the most recent Madonna - the Dance Show, and Dirty Dancing. He will be conducting the dance classes, which will involve dance and choreography for musical production.
